Who is Scott Thompson?
I joined the company six years ago as a warehouse employee.  I like the work and everyone I work with, so I never went to another department.  Today I am a Lead in the Decorative Shipping Department in Huron, Ohio.  I am part of the team of people who coordinate the flow of paint to and from our Distribution Center and all of the other Distribution Centers in North America.

I live in nearby Perkins Township with my wife of 24 years, Jodie.  We have two children, our son Alex, 23, and our daughter Abbey, 20.  In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family and friends, boating, fishing, hiking, golfing and walking Dakota, our black Labrador retriever.

What does color mean to you at work?
In the Shipping Department, color is plays an important part in safety and visibility.  Due to the amount of lift truck traffic and the pace of the job, we need to wear brightly colored shirts – orange and bright green – so that we are highly visible.  People walking through the warehouse and dock areas wear reflective yellow and orange vests.  The lift trucks are orange with yellow lights that flash.  At the entrance of each dock door there are red and green lights to let us know if the trailer in the dock is locked to the building and it is safe to load.  The colors get our attention, and each color has a meaning.

…and out of work?
We view our home as a haven.  We’ve painted it in muted, light tones that we think are calming.  Our family, friends and our children’s friends have always seemed to congregate at our home, so they must like it, too.  We’re always having cookouts, playing games on game night, watching movies (and eating a lot of popcorn).  Everyone is comfortable at our house.  It’s also great to go there after a busy day to relax.

What is your all-time favorite color and why?
I’ve never thought much about having a favorite color, but now that I am thinking about it I’d have to say that it’s green.  One of my favorite memories as a boy was while I was visiting my grandparents in Tennessee.  After breakfast my grandfather called for me to come out to the back porch.  When I got there he said, “Look at that!”  He nodded his head toward a beautiful valley of green, rolling hills, as far as you could see.  It was amazing, and I still remember him standing there, looking out, and smiling.  That memory will stay with me always.  My childhood home, my wife’s car when I first met her, my lunch box, every car I’ve ever owned, my toothbrush and my golf bag – they’re all green.

If you could choose one color that most closely matches your personality, what would it be and why?
Again, I’ve never thought of it before, but it would have to be green because the color means so much to me .  I’m not sure why it is or what it means, but many aspects of my life have been associated with the color green.
